Sustainable product
Sustainability in the treatment of chronic diseases
The research project addresses the environmental impacts of chronic haemodialysis treatments to assess the economic, environmental and social potential of a sustainable design of treatment products and systems.
The project analysed packaging, machinery and treatment systems in three different European dialysis centres, identifying qualitative and quantitative sustainability issues and defining specific sets of guidelines for dialysis treatment design.
Part of the research was conducted as part of the PhD 'Systemic Design for Sustainable Healthcare. Designing for the treatment of chronic diseases' (Pereno, 2017).
