Systemic Design approaches for the transition towards a circular textile value chain

Challenge

The objective of the research is to investigate how the Systemic Design approach and tools can foster the transition and implementation of circular textile value chains, through a regenerative and holistic design approach. The research focuses on the meso-level (i.e. the initiatives of groups of companies and stakeholders), with the aim of building more localised and circular 'textile ecosystems'.

Results

The expected results of this research will be based on the development of a methodological framework and practical guidelines for European textile SMEs and other direct and indirect stakeholders for a transition to a circular textile value-chain.

Notes

The three main research questions on which this PhD research is structured are:

  • Why are the Systemic Design approach and tools useful for the transition to a circular textile value-chain?

  • How can Systemic Design facilitate collaboration between companies and the intersection of different value chains, facilitating an implementation of a circular textile value chain at the 'meso' level (i.e. that of collaboration between companies)?

  • What are the strategies and tools that Systemic Design can suggest to foster the strategies of the Circular Economy Action Plan, and encourage a regenerative design culture?
